Start The Big Pedal to school

The Big Pedal initiative is working to get kids, parents and teachers to get on their bikes for the school run. Will you add your pedals to the campaign? http://thebigpedal.org.uk/

Join the thousands who will cycle to school

In March 2011, over 800 schools pedalled 600,000 school journeys by bike over a period of 15 days. This was The Big Pedal, an ingenious initiative that's inspiring children, parents and teachers to travel to school in an active, rewarding and sustainable way.

Every trip to school by bike count towards a 'virtual' stage race round the UK. The more kids and parents take part in cycling to school, the quicker the race can happen. This year, The Big Pedal, which takes place from 5-23 March, is looking for 1000 schools to take part, making over one million trips by bike. According to research by The Big Pedal, in the UK nearly 50% of pupils would like to cycle to school, but less than 4% do. And with The Times newspaper raising awareness for cycle safety at the moment, it's an excellent time to gain confidence on the road. It'll soon be second nature to cycle to school and you and your children will enjoy all the physical and mental health benefits, as well as saving money.
