Climate Week 21st-27th March - Cycling Promotion Ideas

Up to Cycling Forum
February 10. 2011
Alexander Ford

SPOKES the NHS cycling Network was one of the first organisations to sign up to  Climate Week

The week enables me and a couple of Cyclists from our Bicycle User Group at our Hospital to Promote Cycling as an Sustainable, Healthier and Greener means of commuting to work(whether it be for, 1 day or 5 days a week or cycling during the Spring/Summer Months) or for just leisure purposes.

Here are some ideas that we hope to run although not all, (due to time and money constraints), but hopefully some of you may want to run similar ideas within your own Hospitals & Trusts?

Cycle Security Engraving
Contact your local Police Station, Our Local Community Police Officer's visited our Hospital last year with his engraving kit and security engraved 40 cycles on two workshop days.

“Dr Bike” or “Cycle Surgery”
Working in partnership with your local Cycle retailer. Our local Bike shop visited our Hospital and did a free mechanical check on cycles with recommendations of repair costs to fix cycles.

Cycle Display Board
a Cycle Display board, contact your local Council Highways/Transport Dept, Cycle Touring Club (CTC), Sustrans, Cycling England , Cycle Campaign Groups, as they can usually provide some "Freebie" cycling information/ materials to make your display attractive.
