NHS given timetable for Home Oxygen reprocurement

Do you agree with the new BTS home oxygen guidance that the 1st sampling for LTOT assessment should be a true arterial stab?

1. Yes: the inconvenience for the patient is outweighed by the fact that this will reduce prescribing home oxygen to a group of people who don’t meet the LTOT guidelines

2. No: The CBG technique is much more patient friendly and the results obtained by capillary sampling are close enough not to make a material difference in a real life setting.

NHS given timetable for Home Oxygen reprocurement

The Department of Health has sent out a letter to SHA & PCT Chief Executives to update them about the progress of the Home Oxygen reprocurement and to remind them of the important role that they play in the process.

As we head in to an important stage of the reprocurement of Home Oxygen services, Professor Sue Hill, as Senior Responsible Officer for the Home Oxygen reprocurement, sent out a letter out on 11 August providing an update on the progress that has been made so far. The letter also reminds senior NHS managers of the important role that they will play in ensuring the smooth delivery of the improved Home Oxygen services.

Alongside the letter there was a separate document identifying the intended timetable for the changes in each region and giving details of the Home Oxygen leads in each region. The documents can be read below and are also available from the DH website.
