BTS welcomes COPD and Asthma Outcomes Strategy

Do you agree with the new BTS home oxygen guidance that the 1st sampling for LTOT assessment should be a true arterial stab?

1. Yes: the inconvenience for the patient is outweighed by the fact that this will reduce prescribing home oxygen to a group of people who don’t meet the LTOT guidelines

2. No: The CBG technique is much more patient friendly and the results obtained by capillary sampling are close enough not to make a material difference in a real life setting.

BTS welcomes COPD and Asthma Outcomes Strategy

Professor Mike Morgan, Chair of the British Thoracic Society, has welcomed the launch of the COPD and Asthma Outcomes Strategy

Professor Morgan said:

“ BTS welcomes the publication of the Outcomes strategy for COPD and Asthma. This has been developed over six years as a collaboration between government, respiratory specialists and patient charities.

"It is an important document that attaches priority to COPD and Asthma and sets out a framework for the management of these common debilitating conditions. The recommended changes on the organisation and delivery of care are particularly important in this time of NHS reorganisation to guide commissioners towards the correct approach.”
