I write to inform you that NICE will shortly begin the process of developing a Quality Standard for asthma and are now recruiting for members to be part of the Topic Expert Group (TEG).

The Quality Standard will use as a key evidence source the recommendations presented in the jointly produced British Thoracic SocietyScottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network British Guideline on the Management of Asthma (2011).

NICE are looking for a range of experts with specialist or particular interest in asthma (including children and young people). They are looking to recruit members with the following backgrounds/expertise:

  • Asthma nurse specialist
  • Commissioner
  • Consultant paediatrician
  • Consultant respiratory physician
  • Emergency medicine consultant
  • General practitioner
  • Pharmacist
  • Practice nurse

Applicants will have experience of working with multi-professional committees or working groups at a national or regional level and will need to work in collaboration with the TEG over a period of approximately 12 to 15 months. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written skills are required. Applicants will ideally have experience of guideline development processes, with an understanding of systematic reviews and critical appraisal methods.

TEG members are expected to attend 3 or 4 day-long committee meetings over the course of the 12-15 month development period.
