May/June 2011


The Network will be providing regaular updates on all aspects of the ongoing Telemedicine Project. Full details relating to this project are avilable via the "Network Projects" tab on this website.

Current Thrombolysis Service

Current Thrombolysis services are developing across the Shropshire and Staffordshire health economy.

Within Shropshire the twenty-four hour acute thrombolysis service is expanding and will be available soon from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. This service is aiming to commence early June 2011 and will run in addition to the existing service at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

At Queen's Hospital Burton the thrombolysis service continues to be offered from 7am - 8pm Monday to Friday.

Telemedicine System

In April 2011 Shropshire and Staffordshire Heart and Stroke Network were delighted to facilitate the first host provider partnership meeting for the Telemedicine project. A new partnership has been agreed between South Staffs Health Informatics Service and Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust (SaTH). The unique partnership of clinical and Information Technology expertise will be leading the procurement and installation of the system across the Network area.

Partnership meetings have been taking place and it is envisaged that a system provider should be identified in June/July 2011. Once this has occurred there will be a series of demonstrations at the sites involved allowing staff who will be using the technology a chance to view it before installation.

The 'go live' date will be issued once the system has been identified and workforce training has been delivered at each site. The date is anticipated to be September/October 2011.

Patient Experience

Patient feedback and information on the Telemedicine system is currently being developed with the 'Telemedicine Stakeholder Group', which is led by the Network Patient and Public Involvement lead. A draft information leaflet and experience survey are in the process of being developed. These will be piloted when the system goes live and will run for three months.
