Involving patients in decision-making about their medicines

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has launched the report Involvement, Shared Decision-Making and Medicines by Professor Alan Cribb. The report focuses on a long neglected but much discussed driver of quality in healthcare: joint decision-making between professionals and patients. There is an increasing emphasis on more partnership working between clinicians and patients and shared decision-making about treatment choices, rather than merely choices about such things as treatment venue. This is needed for reasons of both effectiveness and ethics.
