Hello Members,

Can you help develop a job specification/description?

Your colleague Matt Turner in Mid Essex CCG is hoping to build on his workforce and he would like colleagues help to ensure that the role responsibilities fit with the needs of the service and patients.

Log in to your accounts – to view the document go to ‘Documents’, then to the folder marked ‘Workforce’ – you should then be able to access the file marked ‘Band7 COPD Nurse – suggested job description for collaborative input’.  (This will be made available soon).

If you have any issues being able to view this document, please notify stanleynjie@nhs.net

Leave your comments below, or contact Matt directly: matthew.turner4@nhs.net

Thanks Jody - just a bit more information regarding the job role...

It relates to a COPD GOLD pilot we are implementing - specifically it is for a 0.5 WTE B7 COPD practitioner / specialist who will be based in one of our primary care localities.

Key responsibilities will be to work alongside a 0.5 WTE counterpart in our Community COPD Team to coordinate and manage GOLD reclassification of locality COPD patients. This will involve reclassifying patients and then ensuring that GOLD A/B patients are on appropriate meds / pathways (Community Team will focus on GOLD C/Ds).

The role will involve integrated links with COPD Team including clinical supervision. Plus it will entail embedding COPD GOLD framework knowledge and expertise across locality clinicians who deal with COPD patients.

Grateful for thoughts / comments on required skillset and if anyone is able to share JD / person spec for a similar job role that has been commissioned elsewhere?

Many thanks

Matt

Hello Matt, this looks like an interesting role.  I read it with a self-management hat on, having been involved in projects developing self-management support for COPD patients in the past.  I'm wondering if an understanding of, and motivation/skills to support, self-management would be something that you would need in this role?

Many thanks Frances - I have given Matt a nudge to get back to you when he can.

Hello Frances, many thanks for looking at this for me! Back in the office now and will share your thoughts with colleagues. Definitely there is the need for the person to have an understanding of, and motivation/skills to support, self-management - both in the conventional sense and also in terms of giving patients increased choice with digital tools such as MyCOPD. Did you create any JDs for your projects you can share with me?

Kind regards

Matt

Hi Matt

I work as Clinical Lead and COPD Nurse Specialist- just wondered if you have taken a look at the PCRS Fit to Care document which will at least give you some core competencies for an 'expert' respiratory practioner which is def what you will be aiming for for this role.

They will also need a good understanding of pulmonary rehabilitation and breathlessness management particularly with GOLD B patients with high symptom burden

HOpe this is useful

Kind regards

Hi Matt

I'm afraid I don't have any JDs to hand but it could be worth you contacting a colleague of mine who used to do this sort of work with us and may be able to point you in the direction of some recent resources that could help. If you'd like to then please email me at frances.early@addenbrookes.nhs.uk I'll ping an introductory email to her.

Kind regards

Frances
