Re: Virtual Multi-Disciplinary Teams in Leeds

Up to 7. Partnership working
September 14. 2019

Multi-disciplinary working is a key part of providing more integrated care. One of the challenges, though, has traditionally been the time commitment required to bring together a group of professionals, often from different teams. It is particularly difficult for GPs to take time out of clinic, especially if only some of the meeting will discuss their patients.

A number of organisations in Leeds have addressed this challenge by using video calls for MDT meetings. They have used the Skype for Business service provided by NHS Mail.

This has enabled:

  • Increased crossdiscipline attendance, enabling better decision-making

  • Reduced travel costs through remote access to the MDT Meeting

  • Improved productivity through smarter scheduling of attendance

  • More seamless, realtime communication outside the MDT
