National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness

The Inquiry has been established at the University of Manchester since 1996. We are a UK wide research group, commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership on behalf of NHS England and equivalent bodies for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We collect UK wide data on suicide and homicide by people in the recent care of mental health services and also the sudden unexplained death of psychiatric in-patients. We publish an annual report on changing numbers and trends and we also publish short reports on specific topics of interest in mental health care. These documents are free to download from our website, follow the left hand link:

I am interested to make contact with members of the North West network for commissioners and service providers and to share our key findings and recommendations.
