About us

The network promotes, supports and co-ordinates activities to improve access to oral health for people with special needs. It engages with individuals and organisations to share relevant information, experiences, protocols and good practice. It raises awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities and the difficulties they may encounter accessing services.

The network exists to support activities such as epidemiological studies, research, mapping existing services, the development of commissioning criteria, care pathways and integrated services, Health Action Planning, health promotion initiatives, setting of standards and guidelines and evidence based practice, workforce development including advice, training and better information for health care professionals, patients, carers and families.

The network’s primary focus is dental services for people who need special care in the North West of England. It also shares information and collaborates in work nationally.
