Why you should think of Joining NNIST , the network for Informatics in Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visitors, this is where you will find the leaders, movers and shakers for this subject, veritable Information Ambassadors

Interestingly, our group of Midwives in this network have an understanding of the benefit for using Information Technology to be able to do our job. The place of assistive technology for support of clinical care is clear now. It is no longer acceptable for a Nurse or Midwife to say "I don't do computers" To me this is the same as saying I am a Midwife but don't  care for Women!

Healthcare Informatics is about the use of information. In a pure form this is the spoken word, the non- verbal gesture and the note taken on a scrap of hand towel, if it relates to the care you are providing or offering, then it is Informatics.!

But we know we are really talking about the information that we search and select , describe and provide and record, electronically. The reason we do this is that the potential to have the Right Information in the Right format and the Right time for the Right person (carer, patient, healthcare professional)  and that this Information is Collected at the point of Contact, then saved and shared appropriately. Done right, this will support excellent and safe care ( you have all heard me say- to anyone who will listen-Collect Once and Share -as many times)

So why join another network in addition to this one? The NNIST -( both Jeanne Tarrant and I are members of the actual committee) is doing some exciting and innovative things, there is a wealth of postings and resources for you, from commissioning to legislation and very importantly, research.

Have a look, I know you will find this network interesting, stimulating useful and really fun to be with a bunch of very bright Information Ambassadors,
