About Us

The Manchester Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (MSCT) support group is an online platform that links hospital and community based healthcare professionals from Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) with patients registered with their services. Due to technology and having a world at our fingertips, many Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia patients and their families are looking for encouragement through online support groups and social networking sites. With a desire to share stories, get answers about latest treatments, display solidarity and celebrate good news stories, patients and their caregivers will often feel less isolated by being involved in a support group – whether in person or online. We hope that this platform will help address some of these needs going forward.

Support groups bring together people who are going through or have gone through similar experiences. For example, this common ground might be chronic medical conditions, bereavement or caregiving. A support group provides an opportunity for people to share personal experiences and feelings, coping strategies, or first-hand information about diseases or treatments.

The aim of setting up the MSCT online support group is to improve and encourage engagement between you and the healthcare team looking after you.
