National campaigns to promote community pharmacy

Pharmacies should note the recent launch of two communications campaigns designed to increase public awareness of the services and advice that people can access at community pharmacies.

Pharmacy Voice has launched Dispensing Health, a PR campaign which aims to improve public understanding of the role pharmacy can play in supporting public health.

NHS England is running the earlier, the better, a ten-week communications campaign designed to reduce the number of people attending A&E by encouraging them to seek advice early if they are not feeling well. Their campaign will promote NHS Choices as well as community pharmacies, and try to improve public understanding of pharmacy services.

Pharmacies should have by now received packs including window posters and countertop displays to help them support the NHS England campaign.

Be Clear on Cancer campaigns for 2014

A national Be Clear on Cancer campaign, led by PHE in partnership with NHS England and the Department of Health, will run from 3 February to 16 March 2014 to raise awareness of symptoms of breast cancer in women over 70 and encouraging people to see their GP earlier. I’m sure this is something that Healthy Living Pharmacies will embrace.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in England and around a third diagnosed each year are aged 70 and over. Diagnosing breast cancer early means treatment is more likely to be successful. The key message will be ‘1 in 3 women who get breast cancer are over 70, so don’t assume you’re past it’.  It will run on TV, in national press, out-of-home media and direct mail.
