Professor Art Tucker, of St Bartholemew's Hospital, London, was winner of the Service Innovation category in the 2015 Healthcare Science Awards.

The citation for Prof Tucker read:

Prof Tucker has served the NHS for over 20 years and is currently a Principal Clinical Scientist. Together with clinical responsibilities in a unique centre for microvascular medicine, Art is an active clinical researcher. With a longstanding interest in clinical research regulation and GCP, Prof Tucker has served on four different Research Ethics committees and was the Chairman of NRES Committee London - City & East for ~10 years, together membership of the National Advisory Panel of the Health Research Authority.

Art is responsible for the Invention and development of a wide range of award winning medical devices and novel pharmaceutical agents, for example. The geko™ medical device (Firstkind Ltd.) has recently received NICE guidance in 2014 for DVT prevention. The device application has now been expanded to wound care, incontinence and circulatory support. The sister device, Firefly™, has found wide utility in Sports Medicine for the management of DOMS and Sports recovery.  The ProNOx wound care system, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, transdermal drug delivery system and Oral-Gastric-Digestive infection control applications are under commercial development by Edixomed Ltd.

More importantly Art is always ready to disseminate knowledge, support innovation and act as Technology Champion within the NHS and HEI sectors.
