Ambassador 2015 - Science4U Organising Committee

The citation for The Science4U Organising Committee read:

Science4u.info has been in existence since 2002 and encompasses an Annual Schools Science Conference and associated website.  The organising committee is made up of health care scientists from NHS and related organisations. Initially start-up funds were received from the Local Health Authority; since 2004 the group has been reliant upon sponsorship from charities and professional organisations. These conferences are open to students in years 9-11 of all abilities; we try to reach the less academic and privileged schools.  At least 25% of the students come from schools which failed to meet the government target of 70% 5 A-C GCSE passes. English is a second language for 21% of students. The students come from many ethnicities and 37% of students received free school meals. From the evaluations, we know that these conferences have a positive impact upon the students, motivating them to study science and influencing their career aspirations. Previously the Royal College of Pathology has hosted the conference. With their move, Science4U has partnered with the University of Westminster to host the conference this year. The Science4U committee has negotiated this partnership, recruited more scientists (>100) and raised the funds to host this conference for 270 students and their teachers.
