360 degree audit of approach to commissioning process

In light of recent debates on the ‘how’ we influence CCGs, for interest here is a link to the 360 degree appraisal findings of our ELC approach to commissioning in end of life care.

Given where you are, it might prove helpful to use this as a real life case study of how different the commissioning process can be.

As you will see, this real life example was achieved despite the pause and fully integrates ‘co design’ and ‘involvement’ into the heart of CCG commissioning processes. Here, we have moved way beyond having a ‘PPI manager’ or representation of a range of HCPs on a committee and towards co design of commissioning strategy at all stages and led by relevant front line health care professionals – regardless of their discipline, the local community, expert patient groups and those with lived experience of care.

This has been an amazing experience for all concerned and I am very excited about helping convert CCGs to ELC, which we will start doing as of now.

On our website you can view an interactive case study about Health Works experience with ELC with links to films about the process. This is key part of our dissemination work so please pass on the link: www.experienceledcare.co.uk

An independent evaluation of this work will be completed by University of Westminster in January 2011 and we will continue to develop the evidence base for ELC in 2012 as we expand its use beyond end of life and with a larger community of CCGs.

If you would like any more information, do let me know. The website www.experienceledcare.co.uk  is also a great source.
