HCP Commissioning Network Development Meeting 6 October 2010
This follows our successful first meeting on 8 June which launched our press release and highlighted the key issues in the development of GP Commissioning. We are hoping to have a balanced mix of clinicians from pharmacy, optometry, nursing, dentistry and AHPs to continue the development of practical solutions.

Here are some network members' ideas for the agenda. Please share your ideas on what's good / what's not in the message board.
Aims of the day:
1. Demonstrating how the network works, numbers of members and the scope/range of people involved (local, regional, national)
2. Demonstrating the depth of knowledge that this network has access to.
3. Demonstrate that the network is in the interest of collaborative effort rather than the individual interest of each professional group.
Agenda ideas
First hour to establish the entity and where it sits in the future (with the national clinical leaders network?)
1. Background of network.
2. Focus on a collaborative effort - highlight areas / themes which are common to all professional areas and emphasise how function must come before form, with no self interest.
- A description of The primary care home
3. Describe best practice initiatives, providing concrete evidence of where multi-professional commissioning is working and why it’s produced such good results for the patients, eg:
- tower hamlets and spending freed up resources (Debra)
- dentistry service for drug abusers in Cumbria (Eric)
- local optical committees developing LESs (Richard)
- driving down unscheduled care in Crawley (Steve – Amit Bhargava)
4. Plant the seed - describe how the network intends to move forward and what it could achieve...and how, eg
- Developing a picture of how GP Commissioning of local services and national commissioning of primary care should be linked
- Outline current issues within each professional area in primary care commissioning
– provide detail of how each profession works with commissioning, eg on the board, developing services, providing data.
