Whilst we now have a pretty good idea about the evidence base for clinical intervention, ‘what good looks like’ from the perspective of the service user remains a bit of a guessing game.

With tight budgets to manage and the challenge of delivering patient centred care, understanding what good looks like from the patient’s perspective is crucial for commissioners and policy makers alike. In fact, it is the first step in successfully commissioning a high quality service.

The University of Oxford’s Health Experiences Research Group has an archive of over 2,000 interviews covering 55 health conditions. We work with the DIPEx Charity to present them for public use in the form of www.healthtalkonline.org

We believe secondary analysis of this data will provide commissioners and service providers with robust insight to help them conceptualise what good looks through the eyes of the patient and carer.

We have been working with Georgina Craig Associates to develop ways of transferring this knowledge to the NHS. We are now ready to share our early scoping work with you – the people who are shaping and driving forward GP commissioning development and patient and public involvement at the front line.

We want to know what you think. We are very excited about the potential opportunity to provide insights that will ensure that we understand what good looks like and can commission based on robust insight data to create a truly patient centred NHS. We look forward to sharing our story with you very soon.

Please join us at our first commissioning event on Wednesday 03 November 2010 at The Royal Society, Carlton Terrace, London from 16.30 to hear more. Places are limited. Please email julia@gcraigassociates.co.uk to reserve your place today. This event is free of charge.
