Beyond Knowledge Transfer – implementing and operationalising ‘what we know’ for health care practice and health service organisations
- When: 16 November 2011
- Times: 10am-4.20pm
- Where: Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University
This joint HSRN and Society for the Study of Organising for Healthcare (SHOC) event aims to tackle the question of how to take academic concepts, theory and research evidence to the front line of health care delivery. Delegates will hear from high profile thinkers on knowledge transfer, knowledge brokers, and NHS professionals on how to over-come the barriers to knowledge transfer.
Questions/issues to be asked include:
- How is knowledge spread? Does evidence transfer involve replication and copying or adaptation and customization?
- Can we learn from other sectors (e.g. ‘beacon’ sites)? Is the transfer of ideas between sectors (e.g. health to social care) different from spreading best practice within a single organization?
- What roles are effective in applying knowledge to practice and policy? (e.g. how good are knowledge brokers?)
- How portable is our research? What can we take from our empirical cases and evaluations directly to policy and practice?
- The role of theory and prediction: why are we scared to jump the gap?
