'We Are Primary Care' Report

A cross-sector paper called We Are Primary Care has been released by a spectrum of primary care health professionals including pharmacy, hearing and optical sectors. A political drive to address the extreme demand on general practice and fiscal pressure on the NHS by taking care out of hospital and into the community was addressed in the paper. It argued this could only be successful if people had a clear understanding GPs were not always the most appropriate first contact. The paper, orchestrated by Pharmacy Voice, also cited research from YouGov showing that 74 per cent of people regarded GP practices as primary care providers, but just 31 per cent saw optometrists as an integral part of primary care. This compared to 34 per cent for community pharmacies and 24 per cent for community hearing aid services.
