Prof Mike Morgan appointed as new Respiratory NCD

Professor Mike Morgan has been appointed Respiratory National Clinical Director by the NHS Commissioning Board, working two days a week.

NHS National Medical Director Prof Sir Bruce Keogh announced Prof Morgan's appointment, along with 20 other National Clinical Directors at the Medical Leaders Conference last week (part of Healthcare Innovation Expo).

Mike Morgan will work as Respiratory NCD for two days a week and will continue to work as a respiratory consultant at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester

About Mike Morgan (a short biography)

Mike Morgan is a consultant respiratory physician at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Allergy and Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust at Glenfield Hospital and Honorary Professor at the University of Leicester.

He has previously worked at Birmingham Heartlands and the Brompton Hospitals. His career interests have included the assessment and management of respiratory disability particularly in COPD.

He has published widely and was an author of the BTS and ERS/ATS statements on pulmonary rehabilitation.

He is also a Vice President of the British Lung Foundation, the editor of Chronic Respiratory Disease and previously, Chairman of the Asthma UK research committee. He has been a member of the external reference group for the NICE COPD guidelines, the COPD National Strategy and the Department of Health's Respiratory Programme Board.  

He has recently finished his term as Chairman of the Executive of the British Thoracic Society.
