Respiratory Disease Competence Framework - for professionals

This Respiratory disease competence framework describes the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required to deliver patient centred respiratory care.

This competence framework has been produced by Skills for Health in conjunction with the Department of Health Respiratory Team.

The suite of resources includes an underpinning framework of National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Units of Learning for the respiratory care workforce. There is also information on Assessment and two Case Studies of the Framework in practice.

> Read more about the Respiratory Disease Competence Framework on the Skills for Health website

> Read the Main report – this outlines the rationale and uses for the Units of Learning for COPD

> Mapping document – shows how the Units of Learning relate to the COPD Spectrum

Case Studies – demonstrates how services will use the NOS and Units of Learning.

> Read Case study 1 (Oxfordshire PCT)

National Occupational Standards
There are a series of competences to describe what individuals working with patients with COPD and other respiratory diseases need to do, what they need to know and which skills they need in order to carry out an activity. (you will need to accept the Skills for Health licence agreement for these links to work properly. If you have problems, try the links again once you have accepted the agreement)
