The East Midlands Strategic Healthcare Authority (and formative organisations) have worked in collaboration with service leads for the scientist workforce over a number of years in order to strengthen the communication and workforce planning for scientists from across the East Midlands.  There now exists a comprehensive network of scientist leads and professional advisory group, which has strengthened the communication and partnership working.  This has resulted in an annual, specialist, scientist commissioning event which takes place in the summer of every year.  This event brings together key leads from across the East Midlands in order to understand and address local and national healthcare scientist issues.

We would like to invite you to this event as follows;

Thursday 7th July 2011

10:00 start  -  4.30  finish

IGEM House

High Street

Kegworth

Derbyshire  DE74 2DA

This event will consider those issues impacting on the specialist healthcare scientist workforce; the existing workforce within the East Midlands, training capacity and predicted demand.  The output from this event will be to inform commissioning of Scientist Training Programme (STP) for 2012/13.  We also intend to look at Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) need and the development of Bands 1-4.   Agenda to follow.

In order for this event to run as effectively as possible we will require you to do some preparation in advance to look at; service direction, what workforce you currently have and what trainees you will need for your future workforce.  We will send you some tools out over the next few weeks to help with this process so we are able to validate the information before the event.

Please could you let teresataylor@nhs.net know whether you are able to attend by Thursday 12th May.  If there is someone you feel should attend that isn’t on the list then please let us know.
