At Colchester the maternity unit is moving over to the Medway computer system. The histories are completed by the community midwives, printed out when they attend for scans and then ideally if they come to a hospital appointment we should complete the episode on medway and then print out. I say should as when trying to see 17 plus women in a busy diabetes clinic this is not happening and we are just writing in the section at the back for attendances.

My thoughts also are that it is not clear from notes what is actually happening to these women, and perhaps not having access to their full history of appointments.

I wondered if there is any other unit using this system and what your experience has been and how you over come any problems.

we previously had been hand held notes that were written in on each attendance, didn't use the specialist notes from the perinatal institute, I used to insert a couple of pages specific to diabetes that I had made up as check list for medication and history.

help greatly appreciated!

Hello Heather, we are yet to go over to a computerized system so I am sorry I am no help to you regarding this. We have no specialist notes for diabetes. Would like to use the ones produced by perinatal institute. My colleague did produce a check list for type 1 and 2 diabetics which we put into women's notes.

By the way thanks for completing the questionaire,  I sent out 10 and have so far received 7 responses I will give it a few more days and then I will email you the results.

Regards Ed.
