It is good practice that all midwives caring for neonates should be compliant with the neonatal hypogylcaemia guidelines. In my experience, the neonatal team is very good in pointing out if there is a breach of care in these neontates.

I had tried with women who were diet controlled for the paeds to allow staff to perform observations regards temp, resps, alertness and 3 hourly feeding and not perform blood glucose level as had looked at allthe babies of these mums and they had normal blood glucose levels, but there appears to be evidence to suggest that even with well controlled mum on diet baby can still have unexpected hypo so we still continue to perform blood glucose although hopefully only 2 tests if normal
