I have been asked to find out how many units routinely follow the RCOG guideline published in Oct 2010 (http://www.rcog.org.uk/files/rcog-corp/GTG%207.pdf) which recommends antenatal steroids for women delivered before 38+6 by elective CS.  We have not included it in our guideline at Milton Keynes, but some doctors prefer us to give them.  However, I feel that this is an extra admission for the women, and may cause more problems that it prevents.

At Colchester we do routinely give steroids according to the guideline to women having an elective LSCS less than 39 weeks gestation.

Yes it does involve an additional night in for some women, mostly the type 1 ladies will self correct so it is the type 2 and gestational ladies that come in, fortuneately not too many as most will try for VBAC

Hi. At Barnet and Chase Farm we also routinely give steroids to women requiring an elective CS prior to 39 weeks.
