European Patients Forum - discussions on the Directive

Interesting read out on some of the tricky areas that remain to be resolved in Directive negotiations.

On 1 December, the European Patients Forum organised a High-Level Roundtable on Cross-Border Healthcare at the Solvay Library in Brussels. The event was held under the patronage of the Belgian EU Presidency and brought together some 50 high-level decision-makers and opinion-formers from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, and leading health stakeholder organisations to explore the draft Directive on patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare in its wider context. Mr John Dalli, European Commissioner for Health and Consumers, delivered a keynote speech.

The discussion focused on key areas such as patients’ rights, the quality and safety of healthcare, health inequalities, rare diseases and eHealth. A summary statement from the Roundtable can be found here:
