Lansley insists LMCs will not be sidelined

Health secretary Andrew Lansley has assured GP leaders that changes under the health and social care bill “fully preserve” the existing role of local medical committees. BMA GPs committee chair Laurence Buckman last month wrote to Mr Lansley seeking clarification about the future role of LMCs as PCTs are phased out by 2013. GP leaders sought assurances that LMCs would continue to be consulted and involved on key issues by local structures of the new NHSCB (NHS Commissioning Board) as well as emerging CCGs (clinical commissioning groups).
