Mandating Electronic FP17s
From the 1 May 2019 FP17 submissions for new courses of treatment will have to be completed electronically. Paper FP17/FP17O forms for courses of treatment commenced prior to the 1 May 2019 cut-off date will be accepted until 30 June 2019. After this date no paper FP17/FP17O’s will be accepted, regardless of the date the course of treatment was commenced.
Prior to the ceasing of paper FP17’s, practices must make a decision on one of the following options:
Purchase a practice management system from one of the current WebEDI suppliers. A list of these suppliers can be found on our website https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/fp17-processing-and-payments/webedi
Use the online form that the NHSBSA has developed within the Compass system. This is a direct free replacement of the paper FP17/FP17O and is available now. Help and guidance can be found on our website on the ‘FP17 processing and payments’ page https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/fp17-processing-and-payments.
If you require any assistance or have any questions regarding electronic form submissions please get in touch with our Contact Centre at nhsbsa.dentalservices@nhsbsa.nhs.uk or call 0300 330 1348.

National Insurance (NI) numbers
It is a requirement by NHS Pensions to have the correct NI number for member’s records and several issues have been raised, including delays in processing the recent ARR, where NI numbers were not present.
Dentists can check/update their own NI numbers via Compass by navigating to the Performer Folder and then selecting ‘Performer Self Service’. If the NI Number begins with ZZ then this is a temporary number so you will need to enter your permanent number. Simply enter the correct number in the NI Number filed and select ‘Save’.
If you do not know your NI number you can retrieve this through the HMRC Website https://www.gov.uk/lost-national-insurance-number
