WHO launches first global report on vision

Over 1 billion people are living with blindness or vision impairment that could have been prevented or in some cases is still not being treated.

This is one of the stark conclusions of the first global report on vision by the World Health Organisation, which puts the total of all those with some degree of vision impairment at 2.2 billion.  The report found that ageing populations, changing lifestyles and limited access to eye care, particularly in low and middle-income countries, are among the main drivers of the rising numbers of people living with vision impairment.
