Views sought on Read code 'cross maps'

The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has launched a consultation to gain a deeper understanding of the level and nature of the use of an important set of 'cross maps' across the NHS.

The HSCIC is consulting on the Read code V2 and clinical terms V3 cross-maps which link Read codes with classifications OPCS-4 (for procedures) and ICD-10 (for diagnosis).

These cross-maps enable hospitals to satisfy mandatory data collections and submissions, such as the “admitted patient care commissioning data set” and hospital episode statistics, and they support secondary use cases such as epidemiology, clinical governance, commissioning and payment by results.
