Using data to improve dementia care in England

A new dementia profile, developed by Public Health England’s national Dementia Intelligence Network, is claimed to change the way dementia data will be used locally.

For the first time, the profile will enable bespoke comparison between local authorities and CCGs in England.

The profile includes the number of people with dementia by area and age, those who have had an NHS health check, those with depression, emergency hospital admissions and where people with dementia die.

The profile will help commissioners fulfil the objectives of the NHS planning guidance by making information readily available to identify variation, investigate the reasons for any differences and improve outcomes.
