Too many older people falling due to poor eyesight
The majority of people are unaware of the link between poor eyesight and falls in older people, according to our new research, released in the run-up to this year’s Falls Awareness Week.
The research, carried out by Opinion Matters, also showed that almost half of those surveyed (46%) didn’t know that their parents may be entitled to an NHS sight test in their own home, or care home and 25% didn’t realise that sight tests for over 60s are free. We are encouraging carers and people supporting older people to ensure that people who are at risk of falling are receiving regular eye examinations.
