Study looks at value GPs bring to commissioning

A study by the Policy Research Unit in Commissioning explored whether GPs add value to commissioning, which was one of the founding principles of CCGs.

The study found evidence to support GPs’ claims to add value, but also suggests that CCGs have not lived up to their promise. It concludes, for example, that CCGs are no better at engaging with patients than PCTs and that CCGs are achieving less in the area of clinical quality improvement than practice-based commissioning (the GP-led commissioning scheme set up during the PCT era).
