Study looks at role of physician assistants in primary care

A study published by the National Institute of Healthcare Research looks at the impact of demographic change, demand and financial pressure on staffing configurations.

Physician assistants (PAs) are mid-level practitioners, trained over two years at postgraduate level to work under a supervising doctor. A small number of general practices in England have employed PAs and this study aimed to investigate the contribution of PAs to the delivery of patient care.
