Stevens seeks CCG views on co-commissioning

The new NHS England chief executive has asked CCGs how much of a role they want to play in commissioning primary care.

Simon Stevens has asked CCGs for their ideas on co-commissioning, which could see GP led commissioning groups assume some of the responsibilities for primary medical care currently held by NHS England area teams. CCGs have been asked to submit expressions of interest by 20 June.

While it is not clear to what extent CCGs might control GP contracts or budgets, it is thought unlikely that responsibility for other primary care professions will transfer from area teams.
