Statement on cancer drugs fund usage

Increased funding for cancer drugs has helped almost 18,500 people since October 2010, according to data published by the Department of Health (DH).

The data includes information on the number of patients who received medication under the interim cancer drugs funding arrangements for the last six months of 2010/11 and during the Cancer Drugs Fund’s first full year of operation (2011/12).

It is published alongside a bulletin from the National Cancer Action Team, which provides a breakdown of the cancer drugs provided by region.  The DH says the information will allow people to identify and challenge any local variations in the drugs made available through the Cancer Drugs Fund.
