Social enterprise will be key to innovation, says Lansley

Revealing that 540 new social enterprises have been set up since the general election, Andrew Lansley said social business would play a more important part than ever in the development of innovation.

Speaking at an event for healthcare scientists earlier today, the health secretary confirmed that £775 million had been approved over the next five years for scientific projects involving the National Institute of Health Research, the NHS, universities and the social sector.

Primary Care Commissioning, the organiser of today’s event, is running a workshop for aspiring and new social businesses in Manchester in May. The event is free to NHS staff. (Booking details.)
