Smoking in pregnancy now at lowest level since records began

New figures show the proportion of women recorded as smokers at the time of giving birth has fallen to the lowest level since 2006/07 when national data was first made available.

Latest statistics from the Health and Social Care Information Centre show that in 2015/16 10.6% of pregnant women in England were recorded as smokers at the time of giving birth compared with 15.1% in 2006/07.
