RPS issues guidance on use of multi-compartment compliance aids

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), the professional body for pharmacists, has published a report titled Improving patient outcomes: The better use of multi-compartment compliance aids (MCA – also known as MDS).

It includes guidance and recommendations for health and social care professionals. The report calls for a patient-centred approach to designing care that helps people to best use their medicines.

The use of MCA has come to be regarded as a panacea for medicines use and is often integrated into practice and service policy without giving due consideration to the alternatives available. RPS believes that leadership and appropriate incentives are required to promote change that supports patient capability, independence and re-ablement.
