Review of sections 135 and 136 of the Mental Health Act

A report from the Centre for Mental Health concludes that the use of police powers under the Mental Health Act has to change.

In most cases, change could be achieved through better use of existing powers. In all cases, heeding the voices of people who have been detained under these sections is vital, the report says.
