Quarter of people would not call 999 at the first signs of stroke

A quarter of people would wait for more than one symptom of a stroke before calling an ambulance, according to research from Public Health England.

Another reason for delay is that some people think they need permission to act on behalf of others. PHE is underlining the message that people should dial 999 at the first sign of stroke in its latest Act Fast campaign.  Stroke kills over 40,000 people a year and leaves around two-thirds of stroke survivors with a disability.
