Public health review of alcohol harms

Public Health England has published a review of the health, social and economic impact of alcohol and the effectiveness of actions in reducing its harms.

It finds that the economic burden of alcohol is substantial with estimates ranging between 1.3%and 2.7% of the annual GDP. Alcohol related deaths predominately affect young and middle-aged people and as a result alcohol is the leading cause of years of working life lost in England. The review provides evidence to help policy makers identify the policies that will best prevent and reduce alcohol-related harm. More....
