Primary Care Networks: Amendment to the network contract directed enhanced service for 2020/21

Following discussion and agreement with GPC England, NHS England and NHS Improvement has published an amendment to the Network Contract Directed Enhanced Service for 2020/21. The amended DES updates the terms of the 2020/21 Network Contract DES, and applies from 1 October 2020 to all practices who are signed up to the DES.

The changes in brief are:

  • The clinical lead for the Enhanced Health in Care Homes service requirements can now be a non-GP
  • The introduction of two new Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) roles – nurse associates and trainee nursing associates
  • Detail on the Investment and Impact Fund (worth £24.25m).  This is, in effect, a PCN wide QOF.  Most interestingly, the domain relating to over 65’s receiving the flu vaccination is aimed at increasing collaboration with providers in the network.  This is being done by linking achievement to the total number of vaccines provided across the network, no matter who delivers them.
