NICE argues for mental health checks for all with learning disabilities

Experts acknowledge that mental health problems may be more difficult to diagnose for people with learning disabilities.

Data shows only half of people with learning disabilities received a health check in 2011/12. This is an improvement on previous years, but it is not clear whether these checks included mental health questions. They may have only focused on the person’s physical health. NICE is recommending that everyone with learning disabilities receive an annual health check, which includes a review of their mental health.
