NHS leading the world in blood clot prevention
The NHS is leading the way with its system of monitoring patients’ risk of forming blood clots while in hospital and ensuring appropriate prevention measures, says the Department of Health.
The issue of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention, initially widely unrecognised and poorly implemented across the health sector, has in the last five years grown to be a major patient safety initiative with the NHS in England being the only health system in the world to start such a comprehensive system of VTE monitoring and prevention at a national level. National Thrombosis Week runs from 9 - 13 May.
