NHS launches public campaign to highlight new stronger protections around health and care information

NHS England has launched a six week public campaign to raise awareness of new stronger protections for patient information.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is now in force in the UK, giving the public more control over how their personal information is used. The government has also introduced a new national data opt-out, which offers people a choice on whether their confidential patient information is used for research and planning.

As the strict rules governing how data is used are strengthened, the NHS is joining the ICO’s (Information Commissioner’s Office) campaign to raise awareness of how personal information is used by organisations.
