NHS England pushes for open systems
NHS England is reminding trusts and other NHS bodies of their obligations under the NHS standard contract to publish specifications that will allow their information systems to work with other NHS systems.
These technical details, known as application programming interfaces (APIs), should be published by 31 December, NHS England says. The contract also requires organisations to co-ordinate discharges from various care settings and to issue outpatient letters to nationally published specifications by 31 October. NHS England has issued guidance on IT interoperability and a contact address for email enquiries.
