NHS England plan could prevent 600 still births a year

NHS England says it believes the NHS could prevent more than 600 deaths from still birth every year by adopting clinical improvements tested as part of an extensive trial. Maternity staff taking part in the trial at 19 maternity units were able to save the lives of over 160 babies. The improvements included better monitoring in pregnancy and during labour.

The maternity units in the trial were following national guidance, which NHS England hopes to see implemented throughout the country.
